A Personal Story of Faith, Persistence, and Breakthrough

Transitions test us.

When I moved to Canada during the pandemic, I left behind everything familiar to build a new life. It was supposed to be an exciting adventure, a fresh start, but what I didn’t anticipate was the mountain of challenges that would come with it.

I believed that my qualifications, experience, and education would lead me to a job quickly. The reality was far different. Over the course of an entire year, I faced rejection after rejection. I applied for jobs, attended job fairs, and went through countless resume revisions. I invested in coaching, took courses on resume writing and LinkedIn profile optimization, and used every tool at my disposal. Yet, nothing seemed to work.

When I finally received a job offer, I felt the weight of relief. But that feeling quickly turned to shock when, just 24 hours later, the offer was rescinded. No explanation. No justification. The job wasn’t even ideal—just a lifeline—but the loss stung, and it left me questioning everything. In that moment, I wondered if I had made the right decision to come here, or if I had been too naive in thinking things would just fall into place.

But I didn’t let it break me. I decided that giving up wasn’t an option. I knew I had something to offer—I just needed to keep searching. I reached out for interview coaching, had my resume reviewed by professionals, and asked for feedback. The process wasn’t easy, but I kept pushing forward, despite the setbacks and discouragement.

And then, it happened. I received not one, but four job offers. These offers were the kind of opportunities I had been working for—ones that aligned with my skills, values, and ambitions. The offers were better than the one I had lost, and they were a testament to the power of persistence.

What I Learned from This Experience:

  • The Power of Persistence: No matter how many times I was told “no,” I refused to quit. Persistence and resilience in the face of setbacks kept me moving forward.
  • Seeking Help Is Not a Sign of Weakness: I reached out for coaching, asked for resume reviews, and sought advice. These efforts made a difference in how I showed up professionally.
  • Rejection Doesn’t Define You: Losing an offer stung, but I didn’t let it dictate my worth. Rejections are part of the journey—not the end of it.
  • Faith and Trust in the Process: I didn’t know when my breakthrough would come, but I trusted that it would. Having faith in the process, even when I couldn’t see the outcome, was essential to my success.
  • Resilience in the Face of Hardship: The process was long and difficult, but it taught me that resilience isn’t just about enduring; it’s about growing through challenges.

Looking back, I realize that the year of struggle was not wasted. It wasn’t about finding a job. It was about finding strength in the midst of uncertainty. It was about trusting that my time would come, even when everything felt like it was falling apart. I had to let go of my timeline and surrender to the process.

I understand that many of you are facing your own transitions—maybe you’ve experienced rejection or feel like you’re stuck in a rut. It’s easy to get discouraged. But trust me when I say that breakthroughs come in the most unexpected ways. This is not the time to quit; it’s the time to lean in, to keep learning, to keep moving forward.

Every setback I experienced led to growth. The job rejections, the hardships, the uncertainty—all of it prepared me for something greater. I had to let go of the need for immediate results and focus on the journey itself.

So, if you’re in a season of struggle or transition right now, I want to encourage you: don’t give up. Your breakthrough might be closer than you think. Sometimes, the hardest seasons are preparing you for the best things that haven’t yet come. Trust the process, keep pushing forward, and believe that your story will end in victory.
